EXTRA CREDIT (Optional)- If your child would like extra credit in Social Studies, here is their chance! Look at the directions below. PLEASE NOTE that I MUST have a parent signature at the end of this assignment.

2. Click on Social Studies- US History and go to WWII "Would You Drop it?
3. They may watch the video, if you would like (optional) I am showing it on Tuesday
4. Click on the tab that says "Interactive Lyrics"
5. Click on the different blue sentences and look at the pictures and captions.
6. Once you have looked at them all, write 2 interesting points you saw that would make you "For" or "Against" dropping the atomic bomb.
7. Parent signs at the end of the assignment!

We have started our unit on World War II. The standards Miss Hamilton and I will be teaching are as follows:SS5H6 The student will explain the reasons for America’s involvement in World War II.
a. Describe Germany’s aggression in Europe and Japan’s aggression in Asia. (TAUGHT BEFORE BREAK)
b. Describe major events in the war in both Europe and the Pacific; include Pearl Harbor, Iwo Jima, D-Day, VE and VJ Days, and the Holocaust.
c. Discuss President Truman’s decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
d. Identify Roosevelt, Stalin, Churchill, Hirohito, Truman, Mussolini, and Hitler.
e. Describe the effects of rationing and the changing role of women and African-Americans; include “Rosie the Riveter” and the Tuskegee Airmen.
f. Explain the U.S. role in the formation of the United Nations.

We have headed out West and have started learning about the importance of Cattle Trails in the late 1800s as well as the people who raised cattle and herded them to the railheads in Kansas, especially the Black Cowboys. This week we will continue our journey West and learn what happened to the Native Americans during this time. Stay tuned....
